Prometheus Cave

Was discovered on July 15, 1983 by the expedition of the Institute of Geography of Georgia, although the entrance in the form of a large arch was known for a long time. Since 1985, the cave has been converted into an excursion facility. In 1989, an excursion route was already laid in the cave, a 150-meter tunnel at the exit was punched, temporary lighting was installed and construction of above-ground buildings began. In 1990, the project of the excursion cave equipment was closed. In March 2007, managers of French excursion caves were invited to the cave, who estimated the condition of the cave, as an excursion site, and the amount of necessary work to complete the project. In 2009, tests of LED and music equipment began. May 26, 2011 it was opened for visitors. The cave area is 46.6 hectares. "Prometheus Cave" is characterized by wide corridors, unlike other caves. The maximum width is 25-30 m, the ceiling height is 20-25 m, the length of some halls is 80-100 m. There are 17 different sizes of the hall. The length of the path in the cave is 1420 meters, and the total length is 20,000 meters. It is rich in various forms, including stalactites, stalagmites, chelicicts, fountains, cave pearls, underground rivers, underground lakes and much more. In the cave there are two exits: one ends with a river, on which you can walk on a boat, the second exit - a pedestrian, in cave hall. The cave is well organized; There are hiking trails, artificial lighting, laser shows and therapy, for people with asthma. Near the entrance there is a monument to a local resident who has guarded the cave for many years. This is a good tourist object.
