Qvevri Opening Ceremony

What Is a Qvevri?

  • A qvevri is a traditional Georgian clay vessel used for fermenting, storing and ageing wine. Buried deep in the earth, the qvevri provides a naturally stable environment where wine develops over time.
  • For thousands of years, Georgian winemakers have used this method to transform grapes into wine — a tradition that remains alive today and is recognised by UNESCO as part of Georgia's intangible cultural heritage.

It is part of how we make our wine.

For months, a traditional Georgian qvevri has rested beneath the ground, quietly holding the wine of the latest harvest. Now, is the time to remove seal, The qvevri is opened. And for the first time, the new wine is brought into the light. It is a living part of Georgian winemaking culture. And you are invited to be there when it happens.
