Samtskhe-Javakheti Region

"Samtskhe-Javakheti is an administrative region made of two historical provinces of Samtskhe and Javakheti. This picturesque area is known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. When planning a trip to this enchanting region, it's important to consider the best routes to take from Tbilisi. There are two ways to get there from Tbilisi, depending on which region you are going to.If you intend to go to Borjomi (Samtskhe), traveling through the cities of Gori and Khashuri along the Western Highway is the best option. This route not only provides a smoother journey but also offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, allowing you to appreciate the natural beauty of Georgia. As you make your way towards Borjomi, you may also want to take a moment to explore Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, where you can find the Stalin Museum and other historical sites. On the other hand, if your destination is Vardzia, Ninotsminda, Akhalkalaki, or Akhaltsikhe, then the Southern Highway via Paravani Lake is the way to go. This route takes you through breathtaking landscapes, including the serene waters of Paravani Lake, which is a perfect spot for a quick stop to soak in the tranquility. As you travel along this highway, you will encounter charming villages and opportunities to experience the local culture, making your journey not just a means to an end, but an enriching experience in itself."
