Stepantsminda was named after a Georgian Orthodox monk named Stephan, who constructed a hermitage at this location on what later became the Georgian Military Road.
The town is located along the banks of the Terek River, 157 kilometers (98 mi) to the north of Tbilisi at an elevation of 1,740 meters (5,710 feet) above sea level. Stepantsminda’s climate is moderately humid with relatively dry, cold winters and long and cool summers. The average annual temperature is 4.9 degrees Celsius. January is the coldest month with an average temperature of -5.2 degrees Celsius while July is the warmest month with an average temperature of 14.4 degrees Celsius. The absolute minimum recorded temperature is -34 degrees Celsius and the absolute maximum is 32 degrees Celsius. Stepantsminda’s average annual precipitation is 790 mm. (31.1 inches). The town is dominated by large mountains on all sides. The most notable mountain of the region, Mount Kazbek, lies immediately to the west of town. The second most prominent peak, Mt. Shani, rises to an elevation of 4,451 meters (14,600 feet) above sea level, 9 kilometers to the east of Stepantsminda. The town is located 10 kilometers to the south of the famous Darial Gorge.

Is an ultra-premium winery specializing in famous indigenous Georgian grape varieties. It was founded in 2008 by Schuchmann family in a very center of Georgian wine growing zone in Tsinandali.

Stunning place. Zaza and his co-owners could not have been better hosts, with delicious and plentiful food, a tour of the vineyard and the winery itself, and a chance to experience some of Georgia's more unique grape varieties. Definitely check it out!

We had a great holiday with Zaza. He is friendly, knowledgeable and willing to talk about anything. His approach was very flexible, so both he and we included additional things based on our interests. He is punctual and is very free with his time. We learned a lot and had a very pleasurable trip to Georgia. We had Zaza’s Saperavi wine at his vineyard, together with a great meal. I thought his wine was the best one we had on our trip, and we tried a lot of wines!

Reaching here in the middle of a road trip, “Zaza” was a great host who explained all the mastery of Georgian winemaking and let us taste their products while detailing differences between grapes and tastes. I enjoyed every moment here and definitely worth it.

Проездом (случайно) зашли в ресторан Artozani в Телави. Понравилось оформление заведения, меню и ответственный подход к делу хозяина (его имя Лаша). Очень понравилось качество подаваемого вина.
За разговором с Лашей выяснилось, что вино он делает сам, и это семейное дело (отец Лаши развивает свою небольшую винодельню).
Так мы познакомились с отцом Лаши - Зазой.
Заза в дальнейшем провел нам исключительно познавательную и выпивательную (смысл про вино говорить и нормально его не пить??) экскурсию по виноделию и району Телави.
В результате Телави (да и вся Грузия) заиграли для нас новыми красками :).
Без преувеличения, на таких людях все и держится в этом мире. Тех, кто любит свое непростое дело, и делают его честно, с душой.
Всем очень рекомендуем к посещению и ресторан Artozani и винодельню Wine trails. Узнаете из первых рук много нового по виноделию,по истории Телави, а самое главное, получите Море добрых и позитивных эмоций!
