PLACES TO VISIT:
- Mtskheta - It was capital of the early Georgian Kingdom of Iberia (Kartli) from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. It was the location where Christianity was proclaimed the state religion of Kartli in 337. King Dachi I (early 6th century AD),moved the capital from Mtskheta to Tbilisi.
- Dzalisa Archeological Site - Excavations in the 1970s at Dzalisa, revealed the remains of a Roman town dating to the 1st-4th centuries AD. It is considered to be one of the most significant archaeological sites and has been identified as Zalissa, a town mentioned by the 2nd century AD Greek geographer Ptolemy (Claudius Ptolemaeus) in his “Geographical Handbook”.
- Château- Mukhrani - is a winery company, owning a winery in the village of Mukhrani, the Bagration - Mukhraneli estate, a park and stables.
- Samtavisi Cathedral - The history of Samtavisi begins in the 5th century when the first church was constructed. Its fragments are now under the floor of the cathedral. The building then had the shape of basilica. The monk Isidor Samtavisskiy who was a member of the group of Assyrian Fathers, also founded the eparchy and the monastery that still has his name of Samtavisi.
- Ananuri complex - Ananuri a former residence of Aragvi Dukes. Complex featuring churches and towers and from them is a very beautiful view of the Zhinvali reservoir.
- Stepantsminda - The town is located along the banks of the Terek River, at an elevation of 1,740 meters (5,710 feet) above sea level.
- Gergeti Trinity Church - Holy Trinity Church, 14th century is situated at an elevation of 2170 meters, under Mount Kazbegi.
