Château- Mukhrani

Château- Mukhrani is a winery company, owning a winery in the village of Mukhrani, the Bagration - Mukhraneli estate, a park and  stables. One of the main sightsee of the Mukhran Palace is its cellars. Its main tunnel connects the palace and the factory. Today the basements of the Mukhrani palace is fully restored and it can accommodate 60,000 barrels of wine at all times per year, at 15 ° C. Village Mukhrani - ("oak grove" from - oak) Part of the historic territory of Kartli. Plain territory, known for vineyards. Strategically located on the main transit routes crossing ancient and medieval Georgia, easily irrigated and fertile, Mukhrani was an economically developed region and, in a sense, a link between the lowland plains of Kartli and the mountainous regions. In the II-IV centuries AD in this area was Dzalisi, one of the most important settlements of the Caucasian Iberia. Medieval Georgian chronicles describe Mukhrani as a forested area, which the Georgian kings love very much like hunting grounds. Since 1123, Mukhrani has become a thriving sector of royal property. In 1512, Mukhrani passed, in hereditary ownership, to a collateral branch of the Bagrationi  royal dynasty  of Kartli . In the same year, the owners built a fortress Mtveri in Mukhrani. Mukhrani became an independent principality. From now on, Mr. Mukhrani became known as Bagrationi-Mukhraneli. The main settlement of this principality was Shios-Ubani, In 1733 Constantine Bagrationi-Mukhraneli built the Mukhrani fortress near the village of Shiosubani, which eventually turned into the village of Mukhrani. Mukhrani lost his independence after 1800. in 1881, Prince Ivane Bagration-Mukhraneli, interested in the peculiarities of winemaking, went on a trip to France and visited Champagne and Bordeaux. He realized, what he saw, when build a new estate with vineyards, cellars, stables and an extensive park, which was completed in 1885. The French name "chateau" justified itself not only in the work of foreign masters, but also in the fact that the "chateau" produced wines on European technology. The mansion by right became the richest and most impressive house in Georgia. After the death of Ivane, in 1895, the estate went to his son Constantine, who sold it together with vineyards and production to the state. During the Soviet era, the winery continued to operate, but the quality of the products did not go as far as what was before. The mansion was housed factory management and various village offices. In 2002, a group of Georgian entrepreneurs organized work to restore the estate and revive her history. In 2007, the construction of a modern winery started.
